MOPSCON KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Kimi Corrigan

Vice President of Marketing Operations & Strategy at Expel

A full-time, self-described “cool mom” and wife, Kimi Corrigan spends any time she has left as a highly (snack) motivated marketing operations nerd. She’s spent her career helping Software as a Service (SaaS) companies define the role of marketing operations and, in the process, shaping an incredible career category for people in the space. Kimi finds great joy and creativity in solving complex business challenges with the magical mix of people, processes, and technology.

She’s a person with big feelings and has been known to share a motivational quote (or two) — and believe them. Currently located in Ohio, you can usually find her shuttling her two boys (12 and 18) between soccer, baseball, and swim practice… or snuggled into her home office with her dogs, Stout & Griffin. Kimi and her husband enjoy locally roasted coffee, excellent cheeseburgers, riding their bikes, and racing through episodes of whatever is the latest binge-watch. Lately, Kimi’s sons have been teaching her a lot about what it means to “just relax.”

Improving Sales and Marketing Alignment with Operational Empathy

As MOPs professionals, we often feel like we aren't getting traction, especially when working with sales teams - in essence, we do not always feel trusted in our expertise.  This session advocates for improved sales and marketing alignment by:  1. Splitting the Funnel (giving lower intent leads to a different path and level-setting expectations)  2. Using SFDC page layout information strategically (make important info easy for sales to see, and consider hiding sources where bias may occur)  3. Form functional relationships through SCALE (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Likeness, and Equity)  4. Leverage internal campaigns to promote marketing initiatives (think internal nurtures and newsletters). Sales and marketing alignment is not an achievable end goal or something that can be perfected; however, the pillars of this presentation serve as frameworks to move in the right direction - building confidence and TRUST with sales stakeholders.  Key takeaways include specific examples of executing the four approaches through examples, visuals, and tips:

  1. Splitting the Funnel
  2. Page layout optimization
  3. Building trust with SCALE
  4. Internal marketing campaigns

Personalities, Politics, and Operations – The Perfect Storm

Successful Marketing Operations professionals are much more than process, data, and systems. To be an effective MOPS Professional, having the technical and operational chops are only part of the equation; you have to have the soft skills. Without these, it can be challenging to get stakeholder support for our initiatives, budget, headcount, promotions, or respect.  As MOPS veterans, Mollie & Courtney have faced their fair share of challenging stakeholders and have made many bad decisions! But through it all, they have learned how to navigate personalities and politics to influence positive outcomes. They know first-hand how difficult situations often turn themselves into the best learning opportunities. Reflecting on what they did right (and wrong!) helps them understand what to do the next time differently. In this session, we will share our real-life MOPS experiences (and nightmares) to help you navigate the world of operational soft-skills, empowering you to take a more consultative approach and produce better outcomes.  A few of the scenarios being covered:

  • How to disagree with stakeholders with fact and not emotion,
  • How to work with difficult personalities (bulldozers, indecisives, know-it-alls)
  • How to advocate for budget and resources
  • How to navigate the politics to get the proper outcomes
You will leave this session with a new perspective, based on real-life scenarios, on how to level-up the soft-skills needed to navigate corporate politics and effectively advocate as a marketing operations professional.

It’s Getting Hot in Here: Making Documentation Sexy

How can a topic so hot, so important, so vital to our day-to-day become so... dull? No matter how much you know that documenting how you do things is essential to the business, documentation is a skill, and many people find it hard. To top it all off, it seems like nobody in the industry ever reads it; they keep coming to you for help anyway. Yeah, sometimes users are lazy and take shortcuts. Often, users are well-meaning, but they are busy too. Their lack of compliance could be because the documentation doesn't help them understand: maybe it's too long, too complicated, not visual enough, not kept in the place users need it, isn't contextual, and is full of jargon only experts understand. But we can help you fix that. Let two industry experts show you how documentation can be sexy.  Takeaways

  • Different approaches to documenting core processes
  • Communication techniques practiced by us in the real world
  • Concrete examples of playbooks/documentation formats
  • Tips for putting your documentation in the context of your system
